Community Safety Wardens

General

Limavady Borough Council

The Community Wardens Scheme in Limavady was established in response to extensive community consultation in the Neighbourhood Renewal area which covers the Glens, Hospital Lane and Coolessan areas of Limavady. The posts are funded between the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme, Housing Executive, Community Safety Unit, and PSNI, while the main management role lies with Limavady Borough Council.

The Wardens provide a much needed directed foot patrol service aimed at detecting, deterring and reducing anti-social behaviour. The posts are creating safer areas within local neighbourhoods. Similar posts have been very successful elsewhere across the province. It is hoped that Limavady will embrace this initiative as a new way to supporting communities and statutory agencies in achieving a reduction in crime, the fear of crime, and anti-social behaviour.

The wardens for the area are part of a wider Neighbourhood Renewal programme, funded through the Department of Social Development, which supports a range of social activities. Using the Glens Community House as a base, Ivan, Patrick and Trevor will be patrolling the area on different evenings over the weekend period from Thursday to Sunday.

For those wanting to play their part and report an issue such as hate crime, disturbance, anti-social behaviuor etc, the initiative acts as an anonymous reporting service/role for you.
